PASSAGE Shoe Store is a store of stylish and comfortable shoes, clothing, and accessories. We offer current models for every day: sneakers, classic shoes and casual solutions with a comfortable fit.

Favorites

Everyday shoes are tested by more than a few steps in front of a mirror. They have to handle commuting, standing at work, stairs, errands and an evening walk without squeezing the toes or rubbing the heel. A pair that feels soft for the first minute can still become uncomfortable later. This guide explains how to assess fit before buying. The range offered by PASSAGE can be viewed through the PASSAGE storefront on Mytrade.kz.

Judge the pair by your longest part of the day

Before looking at colour or styling, identify when the shoes will work hardest. Someone who spends most of the day at a desk has different needs from a person who walks between offices, uses public transport or remains standing for several hours. The right everyday pair should match the most demanding part of the routine rather than the easiest ten minutes.

A systematic review covering 18 studies found that 63–72% of participants wore footwear that did not properly accommodate the length or width of their feet. One study included in the review found that the total shoe area was smaller than the foot area for 47% of participants. These figures show why buying only by the size printed on the box is unreliable.

Shoes with the same marked size can differ in internal length, forefoot width, instep volume and heel shape. PASSAGE carries sneakers, classic footwear and versatile models for daily use. Available options can be compared in the current footwear listings from PASSAGE.

Check the four contact zones before appearance

The front of the shoe

Your longest toe should not touch the front when you stand and walk. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons recommends approximately half an inch of space, equal to about 12.7 mm, between the longest toe and the tip of the shoe. This allowance supports natural movement, but excessive space is also a warning sign because the foot may slide forward.

The widest part of the forefoot

The ball of the foot should sit within the widest part of the shoe. Look for stretched material, pressure over the little toe or toes being pushed together. A longer size does not always solve a width problem: it may create unnecessary space at the front while leaving the same narrow shape through the forefoot.

The instep

Laces, straps or the upper should secure the foot without pressing into it. Deep marks, tingling or strong tension across the top indicate insufficient volume. If the upper remains loose after adjustment, the foot may move inside the shoe and create friction during longer walks.

The heel

The heel should remain stable without being trapped by a hard edge. Slight movement may occur in some constructions, but repeated lifting with every step usually means that the shape, length or fastening system is unsuitable. The proportions and fastening details of PASSAGE models can also be assessed through the short product videos from the store.

A five-minute fitting routine reveals more than a label

  1. Try on both shoes because the two feet may require slightly different amounts of space.
  2. Wear socks of the same thickness you expect to use with the pair.
  3. Fasten the shoes completely rather than testing them with loose laces or straps.
  4. Walk at a normal pace, turn in both directions and rise onto the balls of your feet.
  5. Check again for toe pressure, heel movement, rubbing seams or a feeling that you already want to remove the shoes.

It is useful to compare at least two models with different lasts. One may match the length but feel restrictive through the forefoot, while another may provide the same length with a more suitable shape. Trying shoes later in the day can also give a more realistic impression because feet may feel fuller after normal activity.

Do not treat pain during fitting as a normal stage of breaking shoes in. Some materials may become more flexible with wear, but a tight toe box, incorrect length or badly positioned seam is not a reliable basis for an everyday purchase. Additional practical guidance can be published in the PASSAGE news and offers section.

Soft cushioning cannot correct the wrong shape

A plush insole can make a pair feel comfortable immediately, but cushioning is only one component. It cannot create extra toe space, move the widest part of the shoe or prevent heel slip caused by an unsuitable last. Everyday comfort depends on the relationship between foot shape, upper construction, fastening and sole behaviour.

PASSAGE offers footwear made with suede, textile and combined materials. Textile can support lower weight and airflow, suede may feel softer around the foot, and combined construction can place different materials where flexibility or support is needed. The material label, however, should never outweigh the actual fit.

Inspect what your foot will touch

Run a hand around the inside before trying the pair. Check the seams near the little toe, the edge of the tongue, the heel lining and the surface of the insole. A raised seam or folded lining can create a concentrated friction point even when the overall size appears correct.

The sole should move with the step, not collapse under it

For city use, the sole must cope with pavement, tiled floors, stairs and occasional uneven surfaces. It should normally flex closer to the front third of the shoe, where the foot bends during push-off. A pair that folds easily through the middle or twists with almost no resistance may not provide the stability expected for prolonged daily wear.

The opposite extreme also deserves attention. A very rigid sole may restrict the natural transition from heel to forefoot. Examine the tread pattern, the contact area and how stable the shoe feels when changing direction. Examples of footwear styling and everyday combinations can be explored in the Mytrade.kz short-video collection.

Common buying mistakes that appear later in the day

  • Choosing only by the size previously bought from another brand.
  • Testing one shoe instead of wearing the complete pair.
  • Ignoring pressure on the little toe because the upper feels soft.
  • Buying a longer size to compensate for a narrow toe box.
  • Checking the shoes while seated without walking and turning.
  • Assuming that noticeable rubbing will disappear after several days.
  • Selecting a pair without considering the surface, distance and hours of use.

People with persistent foot pain, pronounced deformity, diabetes or a need for specialist insoles should not rely on general fitting guidance alone. In such situations, footwear selection may need to be discussed with an appropriate healthcare professional.

The best daily pair becomes almost unnoticeable

Comfortable everyday shoes do not demand attention with every step. The toes remain free, the heel stays controlled, the instep is not compressed and the sole supports a stable movement pattern. PASSAGE serves customers in Almaty and Esik and presents footwear designed for everyday wardrobes. Before buying, define the main use, compare different lasts and prioritise fit over the number on the label.
