About

Our university was opened on June 6, 1991 on the initiative of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev (Decree No. 329). On October 31, 1992, by agreement of the governments of Kazakhstan and Turkey, the university was reorganized into the International Kazakh-Turkish University named after Khoja Ahmed Yasawi.

We work according to a unique corporate governance model for Kazakhstan: the highest body is the Intergovernmental Plenipotentiary Council in Ankara, where both sides are represented on equal terms. Five members of the Council, including the President-Rector, are appointed by the Government of Kazakhstan, five by the Government of Turkey. Financing is provided from the republican budget of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the budget of the Republic of Turkey.
